Learn new skills and prepare for emergencies with the
American Red Cross.
The Chapter is located at
205 E. Beaver Avenue, the
Glennland Building, at the corner of Beaver and Pugh in downtown State
College. All classes are held in
Suite 202 unless otherwise noted.
Paid, pre-registration is required by check, credit or debit card, cash or
money order. Please register early! Classes fill up quickly.
Textbooks are required and the cost of the text is included in the course
registration fee.
Please note:
We can not refund your course fee. If you would like to
transfer into a different class, please call before the class date. Only one
transfer is permitted.
If you are interested in any Challenge courses--please
contact the Chapter at (814) 237-3162 and speak with the Health and Safety
Director. Participants who are taking a Challenge course must bring
proof of current certification (if applicable).

Basic CPR and First Aid Classroom Courses
The three basic classes are (1) Adult CPR/AED,
(2) First Aid and (3) Infant & Child CPR. The fee for any one class is $40
if that is the only course you want to take at that time. If you schedule a
second course at the same time, the price for the two courses is $60.
Signing up all three basic courses at the same time will cost only $70.
The fee for a review class depends upon content.

Blended
Learning for Infant/Child CPR, Adult CPR and First Aid
Those who have completed the online part of the CPR and/or First Aid
training may schedule the practicum, classroom practice, sessions. Go online
for the theory, take the hands-on classroom sessions for certification.
The three basic classes/components are (1) Adult CPR with AED, (2) First Aid
and (3) Infant & Child CPR. The fee for one component is $35, two
components $50 and all three $60 if registered for at the same time. Thus
the fee for the two-component First Aid and Adult CPR/AED class is $50.
Infant & Child CPR, a one component course, if scheduled alone, would be
$35.

Babysitter's Training
This babysitter’s training course will provide individuals, ages 11-15,
with the information and skills necessary to provide safe and responsible
care for children in the absence of parents or adult guardians. This
training will help participants develop skills in leadership and
professionalism; basic care; safety and safe play; first aid and how to
evaluate and respond to emergencies. The cost includes a newly revised (r.02)
handbook, pin, use of equipment and certification in "Babysitter's
Training". Prerequisite: Students must be 11 years old by the last day of
the class. Please note: Children will need to bring a lunch for the May 10
and July 15 sessions due to length of
class; beverages will be provided.

Responder First Aid and CPR Instructor Course:
Fundamentals of Instructor Training (FIT),
First Aid / CPR / AED
The package for this series includes the FA/CPR/AED
Instructor Manual, Participant Book and Skill Cards, Schools and Community
Participant Book, nametag and instructor certification in First Aid/CPR/AED.
Candidates must be at least 16 years old, complete a pre-course interview
and pass the pre-course skills and written tests. Participants must attend
all sessions.
Course fee: $140.00 (with exceptions—see below)
Special Offer: If you are willing to teach 20 course hours as a
Chapter volunteer, including two courses as a co-instructor, in the 12
months following the successful completion of the instructor class, the
course fee will be waived. If the volunteer teaching requirement is not met,
the participant will be billed for the full $140 instructor course fee.
The classes will be held at the Chapter Training Room, Suite 202, 205 E.
Beaver Avenue, State College.

CPR/AED
for the Professional Rescuer
This course meets on Saturdays from
8:30 a.m. until
5:00 p.m. Course fee includes the
required textbook, pocket mask, use of equipment and certification in "CPR/AED
for the Professional Rescuer" (valid for 1 year). Instruction includes one-
and two-rescuer CPR for Adults, Infant & Child CPR, bag-valve-mask and
pocket mask resuscitation skills, use of body substance isolation
precautions to prevent disease transmission, and use of an AED (Automated
External Defibrillator) for a victim of sudden cardiac arrest.
Course Fee: $65.00 (Cost w/out Pocket Mask — $57.00; Cost w/out Book and
Pocket Mask — $49.00)

Sports Safety Training (Includes Adult CPR)
The purpose of this course is to provide individuals with the knowledge
and skills necessary to provide a safe environment for athletes while they
are participating in sports, and in an emergency, to help sustain life and
minimize the consequences of injury or sudden illness until help arrives.
The cost of this course is $65.00.

Family Caregiving Workshop
Three one-hour sessions on (1) General Caregiving
Skills, (2)Home Safety, and (3) Caring for the Caregiver. You will learn to
measure vital signs such as pulse, respirations and temperature; how to
provide a safe environment for themselves and their loved ones; and to care
for your own health while caring for another.
The cost is $30,including all materials.

Emergency Response Instructor Course
The Emergency
Response Instructor course will include the revised CPR (ECC 2000)
guidelines. Attendance at all sessions is mandatory. Cost is $125.00 for
current Red Cross instructors and $140 for others., which includes
instructor's manual, textbook, workbook, pocket mask, American Red Cross
Polo Shirt and nametag, use of equipment and instructor certification.
Prerequisites: Current Emergency Response or EMT provider cards are
recommended as well as competency in skill demonstration; minimum age of 17
by the last scheduled session of the course, possess a current Fundamentals
of Instructor Training (FIT)
certificate (see course listed above) or be a currently authorized Red Cross
instructor in a Health and Safety Services programs. Candidates must pass a
pre-course exam skills test and a written test.

Adult,
Infant & Child CPR
This course offers certification in Adult, Infant and Child CPR. All
sessions are held on a Saturday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. The cost is
$60.00 and includes the Participant Booklet, Skills cards, use of equipment,
and certification in "Adult/Infant/Child CPR" (valid for 1 year).

Babysitter's
Instructor Training
If you are
interested in teaching the all new revised American Red Cross Babysitter's
Training course (see description above), then this course is for you!
Prerequisites: Minimum age of 17 by the last scheduled session of the
course, possess a current Fundamentals of Instructor Training (FIT)
certificate or be a currently authorized Red Cross instructor in a Health
and Safety Services program, and successfully pass a pre-course exam. The
cost for the course is $65.00 and includes Instructor's Kit (r.02),
Participant Handbook (r.02), American Red Cross Polo Shirt and nametag, use
of all equipment, and instructor certification in "Babysitter's Training
(r.02)".

HIV/AIDS Education Training
Did you know that an estimated 40,000 Americans become infected with HIV
every year? Thousands of men, women and children are living with HIV
disease, and there's stil no cure. If you are interested in learning about
the transmission, prevention and progression of the disease, join us for
this FREE interactive, discussion-oriented session. Class is limited to
20 participants.

Emergency Response Course
This course will train individuals with the knowledge and skills necessary
to work as a responder in an emergency to help sustain life, reduce pain and
minimize the consequences of injury or sudden illness until more advanced
medical help can arrive. Successful candidates will receive certification
in "Emergency Response" (valid for 3 years) and "CPR/AED for the
Professional Rescuer" (valid for 1 year). Cost is $170.00, which includes
textbook, workbook, pocket mask, use of equipment and certification. This
course runs approximately 56 hours in length and participants must attend
all sessions. If you are interested in the Emergency Response course,

Wilderness
First Aid Basics
This two-day, 16-hour course is for hikers, hunters, backpackers, scouts...
anyone who works, lives or plays in remote areas. This class covers
injury/illness assessment, urgent first aid techniques, care of major
injuries, bites, stings, outdoor illnesses and evacuation techniques. It
does not include in-depth CPR. A minimum age of 15 is recommended for
participants due to the serious nature of the course and its scenarios.
There are no prerequisites for this course.
Cost: $75.00.
This covers all texts, course materials, certification, Wilderness First Aid
Basics patch plus meals and refreshments for both days.

Pet First Aid
Learn
the skills necessary to provide emergency care to help keep a dog or cat
alive, reduce pain and minimize consequences until veterinary help is
received. Learn how and when to call for assistance for an injured animal.
Identify breathing and cardiac emergencies and how to care for them. Deal
with bleeding and sudden illnesses and learn how to move an injured pet.
The cost is $35.00 and includes a Pet First Aid book.
